Software Consulting Case Study

The background

Our client was an international media company whose web site launch needed to be carried out in a tight timeframe. Moreover it was a requirement of the client that it made the best use of its own internal resources. The client placed high value on a software solution which enabled it to retain as much of the technology expertise as possible in-house.

The brief

We were asked to assist with the roll-out. The approach we adopted reflected a balance between ensuring implementation of key deliverables on the one hand and retaining flexibility in resource allocation on the other.

What Internet Vision did

• We familiarised ourselves with the business goals, by meeting with project managers and other key individuals at the client organisation to determine those areas which were crucial to the success of the project.
• Having identified these areas we worked with the client to develop a staged set of requirements that would maximise the probability of delivering the desired functionality in the required time.
• One team took away the specifications for particular units of development work. Meanwhile we made other teams available to the client to assist on short term operations. This was valuable as there were parts of the project where the specification was complex and therefore took longer to formulate. These teams were then deployed on the development of these further elements. There were ancillary efficiency gains here because the relevant team members already had significant exposure to the client's organisation and overall requirements.
• Regular project management meetings with the client meant that we were able to react to problems and rapidly shift priorities as they changed during the project life-cycle.

Results

As a result of our imput into this project the client achieved its goals. It was able to launch its website on schedule, and just as importantly it was able to retain the know-how of the software in-house.

Moreover the tight-knit relationship that we have built up with the client over several years was cemented. The client has benefited and continues to benefit from this "partnership" as it can more effectively leverage our full range of consulting and development services.
